Moving guide

A practical plan from request to final walkthrough

Use this guide to organize the details that affect your move, prepare both addresses, and know what to review at pickup and delivery.

01

What happens after a quote request

A website submission starts a conversation. It does not reserve a crew, book a date, or create a final estimate or transportation agreement.

  1. Your information is reviewed. The team reviews the route, date, property, access, requested services, and contact details.
  2. The details are clarified.Be ready to discuss the inventory, special items, timing, and anything unusual at either address.
  3. The next step is arranged.Depending on the move, more information or a survey may be needed before an estimate can be prepared.
  4. Written documents matter.Review the estimate and applicable service documents before deciding whether to move forward.

Need to correct a request?

Use the contact page or call(619) 884-3190. Include the name and phone number used on the request, but do not send sensitive identity or financial documents through the website form.

02

An 8-week moving checklist

Start where you are. If your move is closer than eight weeks away, work through the list in priority order and discuss time-sensitive items with the moving team.

Checkboxes are for your personal planning and are not submitted or saved by this website.

What can affect an estimate

A useful estimate depends on complete, current information. The written estimate and service documents explain what applies to your specific move.

Route and timing
Origin, destination, distance, requested dates, schedule flexibility, and route availability.
Shipment details
The amount and type of furniture, cartons, equipment, and other household goods to be moved.
Property access
Stairs, elevators, parking, loading areas, long carries, narrow openings, and building restrictions.
Requested services
Packing, unpacking, storage, disassembly or reassembly, and other services included in writing.
Special handling
Fragile, oversized, unusually heavy, high-value, or difficult-to-access items.
Changes
Added items, new addresses, changed access, date changes, or a different service scope.

A website form cannot inspect the belongings or access conditions. Report meaningful changes before moving day so availability, planning, and documents can be reviewed.

04

Prepare access at both addresses

Confirm the rules

  • Ask property management about move hours, insurance documentation, and loading procedures.
  • Reserve elevators, loading docks, or parking spaces when required.
  • Arrange permits or permissions for restricted parking or street access.
  • Share gate codes, call-box instructions, and on-site contact information.

Prepare the path

  • Clear walkways, stairs, halls, doors, and the route to the truck.
  • Measure tight openings for large furniture and identify alternate access.
  • Point out weak flooring, loose railings, low branches, or other known hazards.
  • Keep children, pets, and visitors away from active work areas.

05

Choose how you want to pack

Full packing

Discuss whether the crew will pack the agreed household contents and which materials, specialty preparation, and unpacking services are included.

Partial packing

Select rooms, fragile items, artwork, dishes, or other belongings for professional packing while you handle the rest.

Self-packing

Use sound cartons, close them securely, avoid overloading, and label each carton by room and general contents. Ask how self-packed cartons will be documented and handled.

Before placing an item in a carton

Ask for the applicable prohibited-items guidance. Do not pack hazardous, flammable, explosive, leaking, or perishable materials without first confirming what is permitted.

06

Keep essential and sensitive items with you

Prepare a clearly separated bag or container that will not be loaded with the shipment.

  • Government identification, passports, keys, wallet, and payment cards
  • Prescription medication, necessary medical devices, and immediate health information
  • Phones, chargers, laptops, and devices needed during travel
  • Moving documents, leases or closing records, travel plans, and important contact numbers
  • Jewelry, cash, irreplaceable documents, and highly sentimental small items
  • Child, pet, and overnight essentials, including a change of clothes and basic toiletries

Discuss regulated, unusually valuable, or sensitive property directly with the moving team before the move. Do not assume every item can be placed in the shipment.

07

Stay available on moving day

  • Have a responsible adult present who can answer questions and review documents.
  • Show the crew the complete work area and identify items that are not part of the move.
  • Point out fragile, high-value, oversized, or specially handled items before work begins.
  • Review completed documents before signing and keep a copy of everything you receive.
  • Keep your phone available and confirm how you can be reached during transportation.
  • Before departure, check closets, cabinets, appliances, garages, sheds, and outdoor areas.

For an interstate move, keep the estimate, inventory or condition paperwork, bill of lading, valuation or protection selection, and other provided records together and accessible.

08

Prepare for interstate delivery

  • Review whether your documents provide a delivery date, a delivery window, or another arrangement.
  • Keep contact information current and remain reachable as delivery approaches.
  • Confirm destination parking, elevator, loading, gate, and building requirements.
  • Prepare a room plan or clear room labels so the crew knows where items belong.
  • Have the required documents and the agreed payment method available.
  • Arrange for a responsible adult to be present throughout delivery and the checkoff process.

09

Complete the final walkthrough and report concerns

  1. Direct placement.Tell the crew which room each item belongs in and confirm included placement or reassembly work.
  2. Check the shipment.Use the inventory or checkoff paperwork provided for the move and look for missing items.
  3. Review visible condition.Note visible loss or damage on the applicable delivery paperwork before signing when possible.
  4. Document a concern.Take clear photographs, keep relevant packaging, and retain copies of all paperwork.
  5. Follow the written process.Use the contact and claim instructions in your service documents and report concerns promptly.

Do not discard a damaged item or arrange a repair before reviewing the instructions that apply to your move, because the item may need to be available for evaluation.

10

Report changes as early as possible

Small-looking changes can affect equipment, labor, access, timing, routing, storage, or price.

  • A different pickup or delivery address
  • Added or removed furniture, cartons, appliances, or specialty items
  • New stairs, elevator rules, parking limits, gate restrictions, or long carries
  • A changed move date, delivery need, or contact person
  • New packing, unpacking, storage, or vehicle-transport interest
  • Anything at the property that changes how the work can be performed safely

Contact the team and ask whether revised written documents are needed. Do not assume a voicemail, text, or informal conversation changes the estimate or service agreement.
